Housing Navigation Program

Deaf residents in North Texas need affordable and stable housing. The goal of Deaf Action Center’s Housing Navigation Program is to provide assistance and guidance through the low-income and affordable housing sector. Our key program activities include educating housing professionals on the needs of deaf communities, ensuring deaf households know their rights to affordable housing, and providing communication accommodations and resources to deaf households to ensure access to stable housing, leading to increased understanding of public housing programs and increased knowledge of their rights to and resources for obtaining and maintaining stable housing.

Funded in part by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas

Martha's Vineyard Place Apartments

In partnership with the City of Dallas, Deaf Action Center operates a tax credit property, Martha’s Vineyard Place (MVP). This 100-unit complex is accessible for deaf and hard of hearing residents with accessible features such as light signaling doorbells, flashing light fire alarms, and a “red plug” in each unit to notify deafblind residents of an emergency through tactile alerts. Free ASL classes are available to those who are not deaf in order to encourage community among all residents. For those who need additional support understanding the components of a lease and the responsibilities of being a tenant, our Housing Navigation Program is available to walk them through the process.
