JOB TITLE: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Technology Specialist
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
DEPARTMENT: DAC – Fort Worth Location
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

OVERVIEW

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Technology Specialist is responsible for addressing the unique communication needs and issues of persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, or oral deaf.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide one on one technological assistance for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, and oral deaf to access technology
  • Comply with ODHHS Contract Standards and contractual goals
  • Conduct monthly workshops for the general public, individuals with hearing loss, and professionals that serve this population
  • Assist state and local governments, organizations, and private entities in making their services accessible and readily available to individuals with hearing loss
  • Provide  referral services
  • Perform workplace assessment for Deaf and hard of hearing employees
  • Identify individuals of the targeted population, assess their needs, and follow up with appropriate technology and service referrals
  • Serve as a resource for information to the general public and raise awareness of hearing loss issues
  • Support and attend all HLAA (Hearing Loss Association of America) meetings in assigned region
  • Work closely with the Texas Work Force Commission (TWC) to understand TWC eligibility criteria and make appropriate referrals
  • Participate and support fundraising initiatives for Deaf Action Center
  • Maintain compliance with all Deaf Action Center policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, workshops, and conferences as required
  • Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
