JOB TITLE: Senior Citizens Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Executive Director and Program Manager
DEPARTMENT: Senior Center Operations Program
FLSA STATUS:  Salary Exempt

OVERVIEW

The Senior Citizens Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, providing and coordinating services for those who are over 60 years of age to ensure and maintain active quality of life. Services include social events, nutrition, daily well-being check-ins and other resources to maintain independence and quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing seniors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fluent or Native in American Sign Language 
  • Provide sight translation (written English to Sign Language) on a daily basis
  • Coordinate daily activities for senior citizens
  • Coordinate monthly trips and events for senior citizens
  • Creates and distributes monthly senior newsletter
  • Manages food pantry to ensure fully stocked
  • Manage and oversee food program of Dallas County VNA services
  • Plans presentations for seniors on health and nutrition
  • Maintains department files
  • Completes weekly and monthly reports to county grantor
  • Conduct research on how to implement outreach strategies
  • Implement Outreach strategies to reach to target population
  • Functions as representative or liaison for Senior Site Council meetings, if requested.
  • Maintains a supportive, cooperative and positive environment for the Deaf Action Center, staff and clients.
  • Maintains compliance with all Deaf Action Center policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and a willingness to develop and maintain strong working relations with co-workers.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings/workshops, and conferences as required.
  • Performs special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.
  • Respects and honors cultural values, background, and generational differences of seniors
  • Drive a shuttle bus (CDL not required)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises part-time assistant

COMPETENCIES

Native or fluent in American Sign Language

  • Proficient in written English
  • Ability to navigate SEE, PSE, and other sign variations and signing systems effectively
  • Ability to facilitate communication from written English to Sign Language to support understanding of complex documents
  • Understanding of and respect for deaf culture
  • Excellent computer skills
