Deaf Action Center is proud to provide Advocacy Services for the Deaf and hard of hearing to eliminate communication barriers, accessibility issues, or service challenges in their workplace, community, or home.

Our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Access Specialists in the Dallas/Fort Worth area coordinate projects through local service providers to assist state, local, and federal agencies, public agencies and organizations, and private entities in making their services accessible to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our programs also provide information and referral services as well as training for improved relations and successful service delivery between the people we serve and businesses/public service providers.

DAC Advocacy Services is contracted with the Health and Human Services Commission – Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (HHSC-ODHHS).

They include:

  • Current information related to workplace and medical office accommodations for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Community Training and Informative Seminars on topics and issues relating to The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Communication and Accommodation Assessments of Schools, Medical Facilities, Offices Civic and Community Buildings, Lodging, and Entertainment Complexes, etc.
  • Youth Empowerment and Leadership Training

This training type is for public schools, entities, businesses, organizations, and community members who do not have hearing loss.

This training has a variety of topics but will generally explain what it is like working with a Deaf and Hard of Hearing person and the best communication tips. It will touch on Deaf Culture, Sensitivity to Deaf and HOH Communication needs, and more.

This training request is for groups of Deaf or Hard of Hearing to learn about their rights to communication access, resources, and more.
