For ASL interpreter Request
Our Interpreting Department, which is Deaf-run, is devoted to providing certified sign language interpreters in order to give Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Texas equal communication access 24 hours a day. Settings vary from employment, job interviews, and business meetings to medical appointments and legal contracts to theatrical performances. Essentially, the goal of the DAC’s Interpreting Department is to continue the holistic community impact it makes and to keep improving the quality of lives of those who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing by providing quality sign language interpreting services and giving 90 cent of every dollar the department makes to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
For CART Request
The DAC’s Interpreting Department is not only limited to providing certified sign language interpreters. We also provide Computer-aided transcription services, as known as CART services. The CART services, described by The National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), are “the instant translation of the spoken word into English text using a stenotype machine, notebook computer and realtime software.” The text produced by the CART services can be displayed on an individual’s computer monitor, projected onto a screen, combined with a video presentation to appear as captions, or otherwise made available using other transmission and display systems. The CART services can be delivered both on-location and remotely.
