The Year of YOU
While 2021 was difficult and mirrored 2020 in many ways, we must look back at all the accomplishments that you made happen for Deaf Action Center and those we serve. We are thrilled to still be standing here in our 48th year and we couldn’t do that without your support. We want to say thank you for your commitment to DAC and highlight a few of the incredible things that happened over the past year.
2021 started off rocky with the winter storm, but our hearts were immediately warmed as we were awarded two grants, one from W.W. Caruth, Jr. Foundation Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas, and another from the Bertice Carter Speck Fund of The Dallas Foundation, both of which supported DAC in the expansion of our technology services outreach and our Youth Education and Transition Services program. These two foundations set up our programming for the year and got us off to a great start.
Then we must turn our attention to one of our most anticipated days of the year: North Texas Giving Day. As always, the community—meaning you—showed up and purchased a new van for our senior services program. Our seniors now have access to a beautiful new bus with inverted seating and a shiny DAC logo on the side. Thanks to you, our seniors are one step closer to getting back into the community and taking care of their daily needs independently.
If that wasn’t enough, the icing on the cake was our first annual “Adopt A Grandparent” event in December. So many of you reached out to support a senior during the holiday season by providing them with a gift from their wish list. Our seniors were thrilled to feel the warmth of your affection and know that you cared for them as they received their gifts.
As we close out 2021 and look forward to 2022, we want you to know how much we appreciate you and all you do to support Deaf Action Center. For a sneak peek of what we have in store for the new year, check out the segment from Executive Director, Heather Hughes.
